The Musings of a Stubborn Believer

Mine Eyes Have Seen…

Isaiah 6
“Mine eyes have seen the King…”
Dreadful, exultant, awesome phrase.
But the young prince is afraid. It is after all, a dreadful, exultant, and awesome scene that has opened before him.
Pictures this: (seriously, try.)
The Almighty God seated high on His throne; the Seraphs (literally: “Burning things”) hovering over Him while they shield their own faces; the entire temple, the massive, glorious palace of the Infinite God, trembling to its foundations at the voice of His announcer; the whole glorious place filled with white smoke because the very air must praise Him… And the entire scene wrapped, and filled, and bursting with a soundtrack like you’ve never heard…
Wow.
But Isaiah didn’t die. Even though he thought he would…
Because those who submit to the work of grace in their lives have another option.
Transformation.

That’s the one I want…

Miracles…

I have a question.
This one thanks to a dear friend who challenged me to fall asleep last night thinking about Jesus, and miracles…

Jesus spared Himself no pains while He was here, to relieve the sufferings of humanity. And He spares no pains today to relieve the sufferings of sinners. To me, miracles are one of the ways He says “I love you” most profoundly. They are proof of His power, proof of His authority, proof of His fidelity and infinity…
Gifts of Grace.

But have you ever stopped to ask yourself if miracles cost Him anything?
–If the gift of life He gave back to Jairus’ daughter, or the widow’s son, was in fact a measure of His own?
Eternal and Creative as He is after all, it seems like He could give without losing. But is that giving?
Maybe He always filled others by pouring out Himself.
And maybe… He still does.

You think?

I am Persuaded!

I love this. You are free.

He said so.

Read it really slowly…

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Ye shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

AMEN, and AMEN

(Quoted: Romans 8:35, 37-39, I John 5:4, I Corinthians 15:57, John 8:36, John 8:32, II Timothy 1:7)

There are Promises, and then there are Promises…

…All of them are infallible, but some are so pronounced they don’t even need to be articulated.

They’re absolute. They’re there whether or not He keeps saying it. Like love, and grace, and mercy…

For God to keep “promising” to love is a bit like a biological father promising to keep being a biological father. It’s not going to change, say it or not.

It’s Who God is.

Ok, So… where’s our part?

The appropriation of “promises absolute” depends not on the validity of the promise itself, but our appreciation for it.
Don’t appreciate it, (or don’t appreciate it enough) and for you, it’s almost like it’s not there… Even if it is absolute.
Love and grace and the Spirit… They all work that way.

They’ve always been there…
Oh Jesus, open our eyes…

Walking with Him…

stEveryone has at least some experience with change… Some people fly at it just for fun, while some keep a tenacious grip on the “known” as long as they can…

Either way, as long as they are walking with Him, a son or daughter of God can trust, because He is worthy…

And with little regard to how dark or narrow the road is in the moment, they can walk straight and tall… right on into victory.

Because “like the stars in the vast circuit of their appointed path, God’s purposes know no haste and no delay…” and I might add, no defeat…

Living Proof of a Loving God…

Let’s just say, this blog is destined to become the landing pad (parallel with my journal) for any precipitates of my nebulous cogitations… (My mind goes there often, as long as the nebula is somewhere between here and Heaven)

Ok, so here’s one for today:

God is Love–
Every facet of God’s existence is an expression of infinite love… God is love, and Love is God… It is common knowledge that we cannot thrive, or even exist without that Love to keep the blood flowing through our veins, and that we rightly represent our Father only when we are soaked, saturated, and dripping with His love…
But here’s the thought for today:
Every act of creation is an expression of infinite Love, and as the crowning act of creation we are to be the ultimate expression of God’s love… If Love abides in us, it refines and makes us perfect, but that is not all. Without us, God’s love cannot be perfected, because we are the chosen channel for the rest of the world…

“If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.” 1 John 4:12

A thought that lingers…

Here’s a thought that lingers tonight…

When the life is spent in pursuit of Godliness, God can pursue that soul with an intensity that makes angels tingle with excitement… And the gifts He bestows are the kind that leave one simply–

–Speechless.
